New Members Join the Dominican Gastronomy Academy

With the sight set on continuing the promotion of the culinary heritage of the Dominican Republic, the Gastronomy Academy of that Caribbean country held its induction act for new members on Tuesday, June 26. The new members join the task of promoting the development of Dominican cuisine and contribute to the projection of an image both locally and internationally.

According to Luis Ros, president of the Dominican Gastronomy Academy (ADG is the Spanish acronym), "gastronomy is the cultural aspect that reflects the way people eat, and that is why we wanted to make our act of inducing new academics an appropriate framework; and what better than the emblematic Palacio de Bellas Artes, located on Avenida Máximo Gómez, with the honorable presence of the Minister of Culture, Mr. Eduardo Selman."

In addition, Mr. José Carlos de Santiago, Honorary President of the ADG and Ambassador of the Iberian-American Gastronomy Academy, who traveled especially from Havana, Cuba, was present to personally share views with the new members.

The list of inductees is made up of Francisco José Pérez Menéndez, Miguel Calzada León, Héctor Vinicio Mella Garrido, Dr. Herbert Stern Díaz, Juan Manuel Núñez González, José Luis Núñez González, Lil Magali Esteva, Esperanza Lithgow and Luis Felipe Aquino Humeau.

During the ceremony, the constitution of seven new work committees was also mentioned, which will allow extending the actions on such issues as of recognition, qualification of restaurants, history and anthropology, communication and press, management of culinary techniques and products, regional integration and gastronomic training.

The committees will be led by the following academy members: Ricardo Pellerano (Recognition Committee), Edgar Pichardo Boirie (Restaurants), Cristian Martínez Villanueva (History and Anthropology), Miguel Calzada León (Communication and Press), Esperanza Lithgow (Chefs) and Luis Felipe Aquino (Training).

On May 24, the ADG held its Ordinary General Assembly, in which the philosophical framework of the institution was revised and its vision, mission and values ??were agreed upon. Likewise, the academy is working on the organic part of the institution in a bid to expand its network of influence and knowledge.

Founded in 2014 as a nonprofit organization, the Dominican Gastronomy Academy has the support of the Iberian-American Academy of Gastronomy (AIG), since they share the same vision at that regional level.The ADG has the purpose of contributing to the investigation, dissemination, promotion and protection of the gastronomic activities of the Dominican Republic.Likewise, it backs up the streamlining of the corresponding culinary techniques and the new gastronomic-dietetic proposals in a framework of respect, solidarity, integrity and commitment.
