OECS Tourism Meeting to Take Place in St. Kitts-Nevis

The Council of Tourism of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States will gather May 6 and 7 in St. Kitts-Nevis, with the formation of an OECS Tourism Policy Framework as the key topic of the agenda.

Among other items of the agenda are to define an OECS Tourism Brand, joint approach to tourism marketing, the Secretariat´s Tourism Work programme, and an OECS approach to development of the yachting sector.

The meeting will be preceded by a one-day gathering of OECS Directors of Tourism on May 5th, which will feed into the deliberations by the Ministers.

Directors and Ministers are expected to discuss the issues facing tourism in the sub-region and provide guidance to the OECS Secretariat on the development of a harmonized OECS plan of action for the Sector.

Representatives of the yachting sector have been invited to the meeting as their sector is expected to be a major area for discussion.

The OECS Tourism Ministers will also be joined at the meeting by their colleagues from Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Martin.

The Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) will also attend, as well as the Organisation of American States (OAS), which will make a presentation on a proposed partnership agreement with the OECS on heritage tourism attractions.

The Director General and the Tourism Officer will lead the Secretariat´s team to the meetings.

The OECS Council of Tourism Ministers was established by a decision of the OECS Authority in 2001.
