Participate in Patria Grande Cuba Festival

Cuba, just like other Latin American countries – Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina – decided to host a rock festival that stands out as an opportunity for Cuban and foreign youngsters to get in touch with the latest trends of the music genre throughout Latin America.

That’s why Paradiso, the cultural tourism agency of Artex, invites all rock fans and enthusiasts to attend the second edition of Patria Grande Latin American Rock Festival, scheduled to take place on the Island on November 13 - 18.

The opening concert is going to be held in Havana, at the Anti-Imperialist Tribune, with the participation of all rock bands, but the festival will also have Pinar del Rio, Sancti Spiritus and Villa Clara provinces as stage.

This year’s edition of Patria Grande is going to feature Argentina’s Carajo and Chile’s Sinergia as the main bands. The list also comprises Colombian Don Palabra and Mexican Paquiderma.

This is the second time Carajo comes to Cuba since its foundation, back in 2000. The first visit was carried out in March 2006, when it was given a mention as the “best international band” by music TV show Cuerda Viva.

The career of the Argentinean band, which is made up of Marcelo "Corvata" Corvalan, bass and voice; Andres "Andy" Vilanova, drums; and Hernan "Tery" Langer, has been marked by studio albums Carajo, Atrapasueños, Inmundo, El Mar de las Almas and Frente a Frente.

The last one, produced in 2013, includes two albums and those who have had the opportunity to listen to them can speak of the differences between them. The first one targets the metalcore genre. From the first song, Tragico Mundo Caido, to the last one, Algo Habremos Hecho, there is a prevailing presence of the dense and aggressive sounds of both drum and bass. The second album, although it features a slower rhythm, is characterized by heavy drum and different sounds like hardcore punk and alternative rock.

With this album, according to an interview given to Granma newspaper, Carajo looks forward to establishing a stronger relation with the Cuban public, while each production is different from the previous one, which shows the band’s natural evolution.

The other leading band, Sinergia, was founded in 1994. Its members define their style as "metal pajaron", due to the introduction of pajarona lyrics, a Chilean term that refers to people that are always asleep at the switch or absentminded. Their songs are catchy, nice and tell everyday stories, so their rock is humorous, with social content. It’s one of the most popular bands in Chile and acclaimed throughout the Latin American circuit. The band has launched six studio albums: demo Apoyando la Demencia, Sinergia, Procesalo Todo, Delirio, El Imperio de la Estupidez and Aqui Nadie Deberia ser Pobre.

The members of Sinergia have recently said, on the Festival’s Facebook page, to be proud and happy to participate in Patria Grande 2015, along with the other bands that have been summoned.

Five Colombian musicians came together in 2008 and founded Don Palabra. The band’s alternative rock also features elements of funk, hip hop and traditional Colombian music, among other genres.

A year later, in 2009, Paquiderma came up in Mexico with the same number of members, who claim to be more than a band: a family. They tear the life they have lived to pieces, with noise.

All in all, Patria Grande Festival is a solidarity space to meet and exchange experiences with Latin American rock bands, which have been handpicked because of their artistic /musical quality and constructive, egalitarian and respectful message in terms of diversity.

Carajo, Sinergia, Don Palabra and Paquiderma will be arriving in Cuba in November and, along with Cuban bands, they are going to give rock fans gather at such spaces as Maxim Rock in Havana and Mejunje in Villa Clara, six days of good energy, conscientious lyrics and rock party with flow, according to the vocalist of Don Palabra.
