Puerto Rico’s Business, Convention and Incentive Travel on the Rise

The Puerto Rico Convention Bureau (PRCB) has just issued a positive report on the business, convention and incentive travel industry on the island, a modality that’s boasting ever-growing demand for reservations in the course of the ongoing fiscal year and that has good chances of going most estimates one better by the end of June.

During the first half of last fiscal year (from July to December, 2003), the Bureau reported a grand total of 238 reservations for a walloping 47 percent spike, that is, 113,327 rooms per night. Stacked up against figures posted the year before, those numbers account for a 36 percent increase and approximately $39.5 million.

In addition, the Bureau informed of 59 exploratory visits that could eventually yield as many as 42,039 rooms per night for the hotel industry and churn out $15 million for the Puerto Rican economy.

In the same breath, the PRCB has provided support services to 544 groups for a similarly staggering 38 percent hike compared to fiscal year 2002.
