Q & A with Sharon Logan, Groups & Incentives at Half Moon Resort, Jamaica

Sharon Logan has been in the tourism industry since 1990. Before starting with Half Moon she worked with several properties on the Island, but confesses that “Half Moon was one of my favorites in the entire Caribbean, and after having worked here for several years, I see what it really takes in the hotel industry to make it successful.”

She sums it up with, “Basically it’s more than just beautiful rooms and elaborate facilities, it’s also the atmosphere and that comfortable feeling you get as soon as you step inside. That is why I always enjoyed visiting Half Moon, and now it is a real pleasure to be a part of their Sales & Marketing Team. Prior to this I worked in Tour Operator Relations (Leisure travel), Regional Sales, and now as head of Group Sales, overseeing Regional Sales and Markets.”

In a few months she will celebrate her sixth year at the resort, saying “it is an easy resort to sell, as it offers so much.” This is easily understood, as we sit on a tree lined terrace at one of their seven restaurants, overlooking its immaculately maintained beaches, while doing this interview.

Let’s talk about Meetings and Incentives, and how big is this segment of the market for Half Moon?
Wow, Meetings and Incentives are very important for Half Moon, as they represent from 25 percent to 30 percent of all our business. In terms of the hospitality industry, if you can get fifty or sixty persons at a given time to your property, you are talking about rooms being filled, and golf, spa, restaurant and many other activities being added into the financial bottom line. Incentives are a very special part of what we do, and it gives us great satisfaction to design special packages for this select group. This is how companies reward their best employees.

With 400 lushly landscaped acres and two miles of pristine beach, Half Moon has an exquisite setting for the discerning traveler, be it incentive, group, corporate or friends and relatives, one will find a friendly, sophisticated and entertaining setting. Whether sitting at one of the outside bars, listening to Jazz or Reggae, playing golf, swimming with the dolphins, sailing, kayaking, or doing yoga on the beach, there’s always something for everyone. We are constantly designing different packages, whether it is within the confines of Half Moon, or zipping through Jamaican tree tops in the mountainous town of Montpellier, the diversions are unlimited. Our guests leave here with fond memories of the warm Jamaican sun, cool trade winds, exquisite cuisine, tan and relaxed bodies and thoughts of the subtle pleasures enjoyed with their Half Moon stay.

Japex is just around the corner (May, 2010) and this is a great time to start thinking about visiting Half Moon Resort. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning, and in the meantime, we also have become Facebook fans of Half Moon.
