Saba’s Airport Scheduled to Close for a Month
Saba, the small Caribbean island 30 miles south of St. Maarten, will close its airport for runway renovations from Sept. 10 to Oct. 9. A new cement runway will be built as will a helicopter platform next to the airport apron.
To minimize the impact on traveling between Saba and St. Maarten, there will be additional ferry departures. Ticket prices will be reduced to $20 one way for the 90-minute crossing.
Winair and Windward Express Airways fly to Saba. When the airport reopens, SXM Airways, a new carrier, will also serve Saba from St. Maarten on charter flights using a nine-seater Britten Norman Islander aircraft.
