Salsa, Tango Festivals Unfold in Bogota
Bogota is putting its best bib and tucker to start out a dance schedule in the second half of the ongoing year that includes salsa and tango festivals. According to the Culture and Tourism District Institute –the event’s organizer- the June agenda will also have a Senior Dance Festival (for people over 50 years of age), plus break dance and pop dance pageants.
The first event is summoning enthusiasts of milonga and salsa music to come to the country from June 9 through 14 for the Ninth Tango Overtakes Bogota Festival and the Let’s Dance Salsa Meeting.
These shows mark the beginning of the dance festivals in a month packed with rumba and hoofers from the finest dance companies in Bogota, Medellin and Cali that will trip the light fantastic with coast-to-coast presentations.
The Senior Dance Festival will take place from June 17 to 27, while the break dance and pop dance festivals will come around from June 21 to 27.
Most presentations and performances will be at the Jorge Eliecer Gaitan Theater in the Colombian capital, as well as in several parks around the city.
The goal behind this initiative is to take culture to the most bustling places around Bogota, an effort that will take the setting of makeshift dais and platforms for visitors to attend the festivals absolutely free and shake a leg or two.
