Sanctuary Cap Cana Added to Playa Hotels’ Portfolio

Playa Hotels & Resorts on Sunday will take over management of the Dominican Republic's Sanctuary Cap Cana from AlSol Hotels & Resorts. It is Playa's first property addition since going public in March.

Playa takes over a 21-acre resort within that has 184 guestrooms, including 33 luxury villas. The resort sits on a half-mile of beachfront within the Cap Cana gated community on the Dominican Republic's east coast.

The all-inclusive resort became an adults-only property in late 2015, about a year after the resort reopened after extensive renovations.

The management agreement, which will include a rebranding effort, is part of Playa's strategy to widen its Dominican Republic presence specifically in Punta Cana. In July, Playa acquired land in Cap Cana, and has since broken ground on a 750-room resort complex that will include a Hyatt Zilara adults-only property and a Hyatt Ziva hotel.

The development will have a convention center, theme restaurants, bars, a theater, shops and an aquatic park. The properties will share a spa and gym.

Playa owns and operates Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara resorts in Cancun, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta and Jamaica, plus the Royal Playa del Carmen in the Mexican Caribbean.

Earlier this year, Playa revealed plans to operate all-inclusive resorts under the Panama Jack brand. The first two resorts under the new brand will open in December in Cancun and Playa del Carmen.
