Muzio highlighted the studies on the fight against cancer, most of which are in stage one, and those aimed at improving the use of Heberprot-p, one of CIGB’s main medicines that have been internationally acclaimed.

The specialist referred to the latest product of the group: proctoquinasa, a suppository that favors the elimination of hemorrhoidal thrombosis. This drug is already registered, it’s being distributed at national level or stage 4 and this province features the main clinical site.

She also mentioned other formulas to treat myocardial infarction and the therapeutic vaccine against hepatitis b, which is going through the final research phase; as well as a product against skin tumors that is going to be registered this year.

CIGB is the flagship institution of Cuban biotechnology and it fosters over 50 research-development projects that include human and veterinarian vaccines, recombinant proteins of therapeutic use, synthetic peptides, monoclonal antibodies and diagnostic systems.

The center’s business portfolio comprises over 70 inventions and the manufacture of products that reach the definitive stage is ruled by fine practices, according to international regulating standards.

Its business strategy is in line with BioCubaFarma’s, a higher organization of entrepreneurial management, made up of 38 as biotechnological and pharmaceutical companies.
