Seven Godmothers Set for Oasis of the Seas

Royal Caribbean International named seven high-profile godmothers for the 225,000-ton Oasis of the Seas, one for each of the neighborhoods on the world’s largest cruise ship.
For the Nov. 30 christening, the line is putting a new twist on the longstanding maritime tradition. While normally bestowing the honor of godmother on one person, Royal Caribbean has chosen seven.
They are Gloria Estefan, a singer and songwriter who was godmother of Empress of the Seas; Michelle Kwan, the Olympic medalist figure skater; Jane Seymour, a multiple Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning actress; Dara Torres, 12-time Olympic medalist and the oldest female swimmer to compete in a record five Olympic games; Keshia Knight Pulliam, film and television actress is best known for her role as Rudy Huxtable on the sitcom “The Cosby Show” and star of the TBS television comedy “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne”; Shawn Johnson, four-time gymnastic medalist at the 2008 Olympic games; and Daisy Fuentes, television personality and producer.
The seven women will take their posts to officially name the ship during a one-night inaugural celebration-fundraiser onboard Oasis of the Seas to benefit the non-profit Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Tickets for the event begin at $500 per person. Guests who wish to stay onboard can do so at the discount price starting at $650 for a four-night cruise to Labadee departing the morning of Dec. 1. Room is still available for Oasis of the Seas’ inaugural sailing departing on Dec. 5.
The inaugural sailing will include exclusive entertainment and gifts for guests to commemorate the occasion. Oasis of the Seas’ seven neighborhoods include Central Park, Boardwalk, the Royal Promenade, Pool and Sports Zone, Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center, Entertainment Place and Youth Zone. The ship has 16 decks, and carries 5,400 guests at double occupancy.
