South Pacific Countries Warned to Brace for Potential Tsunamis

South Pacific countries have again been warned to take precautions against tsunamis happening in the future. Hawaiian newspaper Honolulu Advertiser said all nations in the region had at least some tsunami risk.

The chief scientist and senior manager of the Pacific Disaster Center in Hawaii, Stanley Goosby, said in the newspaper that few Pacific leaders who visited the center were visibly concerned.

"All nations in the region have at least some tsunami risk but the countries which should take the highest precautions are Solomon Islands, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia," Goosby was quoted as saying.

Efforts to set up a Tsunami warning center in Fiji are still in the pipeline. The department said the tsunami center to be set up in Fiji would serve the South-West Pacific region including Vanuatu, Tonga, Samoa and the Solomon Islands.
