Spirit Airlines Sponsoring Bahamas Marathon
Spirit Airlines signed on as a major sponsor of the first Marathon Bahamas. The event takes place Feb. 14 on New Providence Island.
The marathon is part of the Bahamas’ push to increase tourism through the marketing of sporting events, according to Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace, minister of tourism.
There will be three races: the marathon, a 13.1-mile half-marathon and a six-person marathon relay.
The race will start at 6 a.m. at Fort Montagu in the east, across the Paradise Island bridges, through Nassau and along the shoreline to the western end of the island to Arawak Cay.
More than a dozen hotels in Nassau and Paradise Island are offering packages in conjunction with the marathon.
