St. Kitts Basked in the Limelight of this Year’s Caribbean Week in New York
If any one destination could claim an enviable position throughout Caribbean Week in New York 2009, it would have to be St. Kitts.
The island had a presence in nearly every aspect of the Week’s activities, from appearing on national television on Monday through the 36th Annual Governments of the Caribbean State Ball on Friday evening.
St. Kitts was the first island destination to be featured on WPIX channel 11, a CW affiliate station, at approximately 7:00am on Monday morning, the prime time for capturing morning viewers.
Later that morning, representatives from St. Kitts also appeared on the CBS Early Show, a popular national morning show broadcast to approximately 2.5 million people across the US.
At the Caribbean Fair, St. Kitts’ booth was both centrally located and a focal point of attention. With St. Kitts’ logo and images displayed on the large backdrop, St. Kitts promotional materials on display, a Brinley Gold Rum “Lime Fizz” cocktail sampling and representatives talking and answering questions about the destination, it was also the setting for the Caribbean Wedding couple to cut their cake, which was donated by Dreamy Weddings & Tours.
Following the Caribbean Fair, St. Kitts representatives participated in the Caribbean Media Marketplace. St. Kitts’ table was decorated with national flags and held press kits, news stories, gift items and other materials of interest for the nearly 100 journalists who attended.
Friday, the final day of Caribbean Week events, was perhaps the most significant for St. Kitts. During the afternoon, the renowned Executive Chef of The Beach House George Reid cooked a delectable meal for those attending the Allied Award Luncheon.
In the evening, St. Kitts & Nevis Prime Minister the Honorable Dr. Denzil L. Douglas was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Caribbean Tourism Organization in recognition of his outstanding political leadership, his longstanding and effective advocacy in the field of HIV/AIDS and his tireless efforts to improve the quality of life for all Caribbean peoples.
