Susan Sarandon Makes a Push to Revive Tourism in Nepal
The Nepal earthquakes have received tremendous response from the world over. People have pulled in to donate and offer volunteer services to the quake affected areas. Susan Sarandon, the Oscar winning Hollywood actress has urged tourist to come to Nepal after the monsoon season to see the earthquake affected areas of Nepal.
Two powerful earthquakes had struck Nepal on April 25th and the May 12 at 7.8 and 7.3 magnitude respectively. The earthquakes injured nearly 17,000 people and killed more than 8,000.
Nepal is a country that completely depends upon tourism and the impact of the quakes have had an adverse effect on its tourism as tourists are afraid to visit Nepal in fear of meeting another quake.
Sarandon was in Nepal for five days and requested tourists as she toured the quake affected Nepal to make advance bookings after the monsoon. She said that is very important to keep the industry alive as many jobs are dependent of this industry. She inaugurated a campaign where 201 huts will be built for those affected in the quake just outside Kathmandu.
The country has lost many of its monuments but there is still a lot of beauty left and tourists have to visit and help the country rebuild its assets. There are still places which tourists will enjoy trekking.
Nepal has eight of the world’s highest mountain peaks and before the quake the country attracted nearly half a million tourists every year who came to trek in the picturesque landscapes of the Himalayas.
