Entrepreneurs from 17 countries gathered in Ecuador’s Quito over the weekend in an effort to advertise the tourist products of their own nations within the framework of an event that scooped up $17 million worth of business deals, organizers indicated.

The 27th Business Meeting planned by the Quito City Hall and Travel-Mart Latin America –a tourist marketplace that deals with travel packages in each and every of the participating countries- was the perfect setting for this kind of promotional endeavor.

The event was attended by tour operators from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Surinam and Venezuela. According to Travel-Mart Latin America, as many as 850 travel agents turned up for the meeting.

For their part, local tourist authorities traded on the occasion to hype the values of Quito’s downtown area that earlier this month celebrated its 25th anniversary under the Heritage of Mankind title bestowed by UNESCO.
