Tourism, Biodiversity Event in Cuba

The 4th BIOTUR 2006 Meeting on Biodiversity and Tourism, to commemorate the first report on Cuban nature by Christopher Columbus, 514 years ago, will be held from October 26 to 28.

The Organizing Committee reported that 30 specialists from national parks in Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Spain and Cuba, among them ecologists, historians and naturalists, have been interested in participating.

This meeting, which will take place in Holguin on the northeastern coast of the island, is dedicated to preservation of the natural and historical environment in neighboring areas and tourist sites.

The source stated there will be conferences and discussions about issues regarding climate changes, tourism and protection of marine biodiversity.

The program includes debates about the management of ecosystems and wild animals in captivity, ecological tourism, bird watching and the challenge of the sustainability.
