Tourism Ministers from Mexico, Central America Discuss Regional Cooperation

Tourism ministers from Central America and Mexico met recently in Cancun with a view to assess regional cooperation between both geographical regions.

The meeting served to highlight top collaboration issues within the framework of the Tuxtla-Gutierrez Agreements signed by Mexico and Central America, as well as to appraise advances achieved by the Mayan World Tourism Program and other aspects contained in the Puebla-Panama Plan (PPP).

Experts also reviewed Mexico´s assistance to the region in such key areas as tourism investment projects, promotional efforts and marketing strategies. Short-term execution of a tourism quality certification was another topic that grabbed attendants´ attention.

As part of the PPP, the region´s tourism ministers also broached the so-called Mesoamerican Tourism Initiative in an effort to further the development of ecological, cultural and historic tourism by means of regional actions.
