Trinidad & Tobago´s Claudia Pegus Flaunted her Roots at Sparkling Fashion Show in Venezuela

As the old saying goes, "there´s no gain without pain," and Trinidad & Tobago´s fashion designer Claudia Pegus had not only the vision, but also the drive and the desire to conquer new markets, to forge alliances in the highly competitive realm of Latin fashion. And she accepted the invitation to be the honor guest at a splendid fashion runway show entitled Venezuela Designs, recently held in that South American nation.

Mrs. Pegus´ designs and collections have put her on the map, not only in the Caribbean, but also in Europe, the U.S. and Canada. This time around, she presented seven new designs -five of them from her Hemp Resort Collection. The other two outfits belong to her formalwear collection.

Not even her world-known cocktail-party dresses were seen in the runways of Caracas, let alone her fanciest creations and flagship bride gowns.

"Even though I was mad about presenting my top-of-the-line designs, I just wanted to try my hand at this racial and cultural blend that´s so commonplace in this region and that we share with Latin America," Mrs. Pegus said. "I love couture, but I´m convinced this was definitely not the time to show off my 2006 collection. Besides, I´m committed to unveiling that particular collection at the Jamaica Annual Fashion Show on June 12."

Nevertheless, Mrs. Pegus seemed to be in her elements. She brought along some of the loveliest designs ever seen in Venezuela, beautifully combined with the finest local jewelry money can buy. At the end of the show, the standing ovation made Mrs. Pegus take a long curtain call. There, with her top models around, the sensational designer walked onstage waving a small flag of her homeland.
