Cuba will be for the first time the venue of the World Convention of the German tour operator TUI in Varadero (western region) and Jardines del Rey (central region), an official from the tourist sector reported.

Organized by the Cuban Ministry of Tourism, Cubanacán S.A and the Spanish Group Sol-Meliá, the event, scheduled for November 2-13, will be attended by 600 delegates from different nations and will have a commercial character.

Eduardo Perera, general director of Meliá Cayo Guillermo hotel, one of the venues of the event, told PL that the development and prospects of the Jardines del Rey, the country"s third major tourist destination, would be presented at the meeting.

He said that participants will have the chance to become familiar with the northern keys off Ciego de Avila, 500 km east of Havana, where they will visit the international airport of Cayo Coco, the El Bagá natural park, and the eight hotels run by Sol Meliá in the region.

Perera confirmed that the most important part of the convention would be dedicated to navigation and nature activities, due to the beauties and conservation of the flora and fauna of the region, where the world"s second largest coral barrier is located. The event has great importance for Jardines del Rey, since Germany is one of its major markets and TUI is Germany"s major tour operator.
