TUI to Levy Surcharge due to Galloping Oil Prices
TUI, the giant Germany-based tour operator, will implement a surcharge on travel packages as a result of spiking oil prices in the world market, the company’s front office informed this week in Hanover.
All travel packages booked from December 1 onward will have a 5-euro-per-passenger surcharge tacked on. In the case of long-haul destinations, the additional charge will ratchet up to 6 euros, with the sole exception of Dubai that will carry a 7-euro money addendum.
Representatives from the world’s biggest tour operator estimate oil and fuel costs for its wintertime operations have increased by as much as 40 percent this year. TUI also says the company has no other choice but to pass surcharges that airlines levy on tour operators on to travelers.
The surcharge regulation will remain in place during the entire wintertime travel season. However, the German company does not rule out the possibility of stretching the nagging monetary supplement into next summer if the current oil price madness drags on.
