This time around, Cuba’s Journalist and Writer League (UPEC is the Spanish acronym) in the province of Santiago de Cuba invited its 200 members, and friends from Cuba and the whole world to tweet on Wednesday June 3, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., as part of the actions that are being carried out within the framework of the celebrations for the 500th anniversary of the foundation of the village.

The idea aims at sharing, with those who admire the Hero City, the reasons why this anniversary is going to be celebrated in Revolution, as a special motivation to achieve new goals.

The hashtags proposed on June 3 were #SantiagodeCuba500, #SantiagodeCuba and #Cuba.

Santiago de Cuba is making the arrangements for the celebration with a comprehensive program sponsored by the City Curator’s Office, to be developed at the foundational area – Cespedes Park and surroundings -, as well as the works for the 55th anniversary of the proclamation of the revolutionary triumph by Fidel.

The works include the restoration of the Cathedral Church and the park (former Square of Arms), the transformation of the Cultural House into the Museum of Decorative Arts, and the rescue of other properties and balconies in the area.

Likewise, Las Enramadas heritage corridor has been outlined throughout 16 blocks, which is going to turn the popular artery into a cozy boulevard, give the Imperial Hotel a four-star category, and recover warehouses like those located in San Jose, Old Havana.

Preservation works are also being held at July 26th monumental area, Loma del Intendente, Plaza de Marte and Santa Ifigenia Cemetery.

Santiago de Cuba’s area between the sea and mountains is going to feature La Alameda sea promenade with a group of parks, fountains and the seawall, connected to the road to Morro Castle, so visitors can gaze at the beauty of the landscape.

There is great heritage value throughout the territory of Santiago de Cuba. The plans include the restoration of El Cobre associative scenery and Gran Piedra Hills, with coffee plantations La Isabelica and Fraternidad, Los Caminos del Café archaeological route, among other actions.
