U.S. Meetings, Conventions in St. Maarten to Get Tax Rebate
St. Maarten has announced that international travel to meetings and conventions held in the Dutch colony are now 100 percent tax deductible for U.S. companies.
Called the “Tax Information Exchange Agreement,” the tax rebate applies to the United States. “This tax initiative allows U.S. tax payers to claim a tax deduction for the expenses associated with a convention held on the Dutch half of the island to the same extent as a convention held in the U.S.,” St. Maarten Tourism said. “This means many of the expenses incurred through international travel to events such as meetings, conventions, seminars and exhibits that are held in Dutch St. Maarten are now 100 percent tax deductible.”
While business from leisure travel industry has typically been St. Maarten/St. Martin’s mainstay, the island is enjoying impressive increases in meetings, conventions and incentives business, according to St. Maarten Tourism.
The island of St. Maarten/St. Martin is located at the northern end of the Lesser Antilles, approximately 150 miles southeast of Puerto Rico. It is a commonly known as a popular port-of-call for the cruise industry. It is the smallest landmass in the world to be partitioned between two different nations –France and the Netherlands.
