After 20 months of construction to meet International Cricket Council (ICC) standards, the region´s newest sporting facility was officially opened at a ceremony in St. Kitts last Saturday.
The handing over ceremony was attended by senior government officials, including the Prime Minister and Minister of Sport Dr. Denzil Douglas. Private Sector officials, representatives of sporting organizations and members of the Diplomatic Corps are also expected to attend.
The stadium was redeveloped as part of the Federation´s successful bid to host first-round matches of the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2007.
The official opening of the facility comes three days ahead of the first One-Day International (ODI) to be held in St. Kitts and Nevis. The May 23 match will feature the Indian cricket team versus the West Indian cricket team. The squads will also square off in four test matches.
