WTM 2007 Panel Preps Responsible Tourism Day
Eight leading international experts in the responsible tourism sector are joining forces on an advisory panel set up by World Travel Market to support the inaugural WTM World Responsible Tourism Day on 14 November, 2007.
The panel –headed by Harold Goodwin, Professor Responsible Tourism Management, International Centre of Responsible Tourism, Leeds Metropolitan University- will advise on the development of a comprehensive program of events at this year’s World Travel Market. These will tackle issues including water, poverty reduction and carbon offsetting as well as featuring destination case studies.
The panel will also look at how WTM World Responsible Tourism Day, which is officially supported by The UNWTO, can develop into a major, recognized international day of action in future years - one that will act as a catalyst for the travel and tourism industry to undertake their own responsible tourism initiatives.
“World Travel Market is absolutely delighted to have gathered such a distinguished and experienced panel to help support WTM World Responsible Tourism Day –the world’s most ambitious international day of industry action to help save the planet and change lives. The day is a unique opportunity for governments, the travel industry, local communities and travelers to show that it is practical contributions that count, not just talk,” said Fiona Jeffery, Managing Director of World Travel Market.
