Virgin America, the California-based airline known for its upscale service and low fares, is celebrating its seventh anniversary and seventh straight year as the Top Domestic Airline in Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards with help from the San Francisco Giants and San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee who named August 8, 2014 Virgin America Day. As a thank you to its loyal flyers, Virgin America launched a network-wide fare sale.

Copa Airlines has begun twice-weekly direct flights between Panama and Georgetown, Guyana, the carrier announced. The service, which launched last month, makes Guyana the carrier’s 30th destination in South America.

LAN, a member of LATAM Airlines Group, and Qantas, both members of the oneworld airline alliance, have reinforced their codeshare agreement and will begin offering flights within Oceania and South America.

International Airlines Group (IAG) is converting eight Airbus A350-900 aircraft options into firm orders and securing eight A330-200 aircraft for Iberia. These aircraft will replace 16 A340 family aircraft in Iberia’s long-haul fleet.

FlyersRights.org, the largest US-based airline passenger organization, in light of the shoot down of the MH 17 flight over eastern Ukraine, has called on all airlines to provide passengers on international flights with detailed route maps on their web sites.

American Airlines is making changes to its international winter flying schedule to add new service and better match capacity with customer demand.  The moves include adding new service to Viracopos International Airport (VCP) in Campinas, Brazil, from American's hubs at Miami International Airport (MIA) and New York's John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK).
