At the close of a week marked by a series of tragic plane crashes, International Air Transport Association (IATA) director general and CEO Tony Tyler has released a statement addressing air travel safety and expressing condolences to all those affected by recent events. Here is Tyler's full statement: “This has been a very sad week for everyone involved with aviation. Our heartfelt sorrow goes to all those who have lost their lives in these tragedies. And the industry’s thoughts and prayers are with their families and loved ones. Every accident is one too many.

The Tobago House of Assembly says it wants a “separate airline” to service the Trinidad-Tobago air bridge. THA Chief Secretary Orville London raised the issue during a 2015 budget consultation last week.

Phoenix Airways, a new inter-Caribbean airline, has announced the commencement of its flight service to and from St Kitts, starting July 16, 2014. The airline will serve destinations such as Aruba, Barbados, Antigua, Nevis, St Maarten, Anguilla, Tortola and Santo Domingo. Operations to St Thomas, St Croix and Puerto Rico will begin in October 2014.
