
The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) firmly rejects comments by Guyana's President Bharrat Jagdeo describing as "absolute nonsense" that governments were taxing hotels out of existence. He made those remarks at a press conference at the CARICOM summit held recently in St. Kitts. The members of CHTA are most disappointed by the Guyana President's unfortunate remarks related to the already tax-riddled industry, according to Josef Forstmayr, president of CHTA.

In a press conference in St. Kitts during the CARICOM Heads of Governments meeting, in which tourism was not on the agenda, Josef Forstmayr, president of the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA), took the opportunity to focus on crucial economic factors that are being ignored, all of which could have a beneficial impact on the livelihoods of thousands of Caribbean nationals.

Trinidad & Tobago grabbed top honors as Caribbean Culinary Team of the Year at the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association’s (CHTA) 2011 "Taste of the Caribbean" culinary competition hosted at the Hyatt Regency, Miami.

In his first act as President of the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA), Josef Forstmayr has launched the Tourism Is Key advocacy campaign underlining the importance of travel and tourism to local Caribbean economies which are more tourism-dependent than any other region in the world.
