Jamaican authorities are putting a full court press on Disney Cruise Line, in an effort to get the family friendly cruise line to include the island country as a stop. Disney executives were recently invited to the country as guests of the Port Authority of Jamaica.

The US Virgin Islands has welcomed the unveiling of Royal Caribbean International's new Caribbean itineraries which include two additional ships regularly calling on the Virgin Islands. The deployment will include an increase in summer calls to the Virgin Islands by 16 vessels in all.

Costa Crociere and Italo-American consortium Titan-Micoperi presented their plan to Costa Concordia Emergency Commissioner Franco Gabrielli to remove the wreck of the Costa Concordia from the coast of Giglio Island. Work will begin in a few days and is expected to last about 12 months.

Groundbreaking ceremonies for the Caribbean’s newest destination, the $65 million Amber Cove Cruise Center, were held on May 15th in the Dominican Republic at the project site on the Bay of Maimon located near Puerto Plata in the country’s North Coast. The new facility is scheduled to open in 2014.
