Even as its construction nears completion, the $3.5 billion Baha Mar mega-resort project this week enters a critical stage. Now five months beyond the original launch date, it remains unclear when exactly the resort will open.

Palace Resorts, which has all-inclusive hotels in the Caribbean and Mexico, recently announced the addition of Magda Hanna as regional director of sales for the West Coast and Linda Finley as director of sales for the Southeast region.

With plans to expand to 100 hotels this year and add another 50 across nine new countries by 2017, Marriott International has named Tim Sheldon as President of its Caribbean & Latin America (CALA) region. Sheldon will capitalize on the company’s rapid regional expansion to drive operational excellence in partnership with the company’s owners and franchisees. Mr. Sheldon will begin his new role in June.

Fourteen people, including three baggage handlers for Southwest Airlines, have been arrested and charged with conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute 100 kilograms or more of marijuana.
