Ministry of Tourism officials have estimated that The Bahamas lost close to $1 million in room revenue as a result of cancellations due to Hurricane Ike.

Providenciales in Turks and Caicos, has reopened for business after Hurricane Ike caused minor cosmetic and landscaping damage. While the southern cays of Grand Turk, Salt Cay and South Caicos were hit the hardest at a reported 80 percent damage to homes and businesses, this is not the case for Providenciales. Flights will resume Monday, September 15. Ocean Club Resorts was closed during the storm for scheduled annual renovations and will now re-open October 24.

The Turks & Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association (TCHTA) reported that it is largely “business as usual” for the majority of its member properties and services catering to tourism in the island chain. Most properties in Providenciales, the main tourism center, suffered only minimal damage during the recent Hurricanes Hanna and Ike that passed by the islands.

Cuban Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) reported on Thursday to have resumed operations with the arrival of flights from America and Europe after hurricane Ike left the Island. The report indicated some 30 thousand tourists have recently arrived at different resorts throughout the Island.

EE.UU. After killing 75 in Haiti and Cuba and seriously damaging the bigger Caribbean islands, hurricane Ike has reached the Mexican Gulf, moving at a velocity of 115km/h to the north-west. According tot eh National Hurricane Centre in Miami, Ike will reach the coasts of Texas on Saturday. The bigger cities, like Corpus Christi and Galveston, are already carrying out the evacuation plan and all oil and gas platforms are preparing to close down, with possible repercussions for the economy.

The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman is open for business as usual following Hurricane Gustav. The hotel incurred no damage and is fully operational. Recovery teams have surveyed the property and reported fallen trees, limbs and debris, which have been removed to ensure returning guests can enjoy the hotel’s celebrated brand partnerships, amenities and service.
