The Spanish Tourism Institute (Turespaña) has unveiled a new sustainable tourism microsite within its Spain.info website. This initiative aims to enhance Spain’s positioning as a destination committed to sustainability while promoting a more responsible way of traveling that creates a positive impact on local communities.

The microsite offers a collection of reasons to choose Spain as a sustainable destination, highlighting areas such as nature conservation, heritage preservation, and sustainable transportation options. It also provides travel ideas, featuring options for active and nature tourism, as well as urban and gastronomic experiences.

In addition to these travel ideas, the site offers tourists tips on how to make a more positive impact during their visit, covering aspects like selecting transportation and accommodations and practicing responsible behavior.

Spain as a Sustainable Destination

The microsite is part of Turespaña's broader efforts to position Spain as a leader in sustainable tourism, a goal presented this week to regional governments, municipalities, and social agents at the Spanish Tourism Council (Conestur). At the meeting, a declaration was approved, prioritizing responsible tourism and the well-being of local citizens.

The transition to a sustainable tourism model is a shared objective among all industry stakeholders. To support this, Turespaña developed the 2021-2024 Strategic Marketing Plan, which focuses not only on recovering tourism activity post-pandemic but also on managing international demand in a way that supports the social, environmental, and economic sustainability of tourism in Spain.

Currently, Turespaña is implementing a comprehensive communication plan to further position Spain as a sustainable destination. This plan includes various initiatives that deepen its support for the sustainable transition of tourism by generating knowledge, specializing in marketing efforts, and supporting the internationalization of tourism products and services committed to sustainability. One key initiative is the 'Spain. Talks. Caring for the future' series, held in cities like London, Milan, Stockholm, Paris, New York, and soon Berlin.
