Florida Remains Alert amid Hurricane Dorian’s Latest Path Projection

State of emergencies are still in place here in Florida due to Hurricane Dorian, although it looks like we might be spared a direct hit, we're not out of the woods yet.

Many people said they were cautiously optimistic, but will still stay on alert until Dorian makes landfall.

They have gone to the trouble of stocking up on supplies, putting up hurricane shutters and they don't think it was a waste of time.

Evelyn Ziegler just got her house shuttered and boarded up Saturday.

"There were a lot of hurdles along the way, I have an old house," said Ziegler.

While the job is not perfect, she said it was the best she and the two men she hired to help her could do at the time.

"We didn’t have the screws that you need to attach it to the house," Ziegler explained showing us how they shutters were attached to her home. "So we kind of made it work and that’s gonna be the best that I got."

Ziegler said Hurricane Dorian was "a good run" even if her West Palm Beach area doesn't get hit by the storm.

She also said she still wants to be prepared, in case the storm shifts her way last minute.

She has also stocked up on food and water.

"Once the hurricane is on you, you can’t buy anything having to do with hurricane prep," said Ziegler. "The shelves are empty."

In addition to shuttering her home, she also did around her yard for hurricane prep.

"You got to clean up all the potential flying objects in your yard," Ziegler explained.

She is also fostering two puppies until Dorian passes, she said she definitely isn't ready to send them back yet.

However, there's still a big question she hopes she can answer soon.

When should she take the hurricane shutters down?

"I don’t know," said Ziegler. "I’m going to think about that."

That may not be an easy question to answer, because while we do track hurricanes, they can turn unexpectedly.

Officials are saying to stay prepared.
