Airbnb activates an anti-party system in several countries for New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve is one of the most intense dates in the nightlife calendar. For this reason, celebrations are expected to take place in regulated venues, which do not include short-term rental properties. In this context, Airbnb has activated its anti-party system in Puerto Rico, Canada, the United States, Australia, France and Spain to prevent unauthorised parties in listings on the platform.

The technology analyses predictive signals to assess whether a booking could pose a risk of excessive noise or public disturbance. When such risks are detected, the system blocks the reservation. This measure does not remove users from the platform, but instead redirects them towards more suitable options, such as private rooms or hotels.

This marks the fifth consecutive year that Airbnb has implemented this system. According to the company, it has helped reduce party-related complaints by up to 50%. Last year alone, the system reportedly prevented a party involving more than 200 people in Puerto Rico.

Using Airbnb listings for unauthorised parties may result in account removal, the cancellation of future bookings, and liability for any damage caused to the property.

Beyond booking technology, Airbnb provides additional support for hosts and guests through best-practice guidance, direct assistance lines for local communities, and 24/7 safety channels coordinated with Airbnb’s dedicated security teams.
