Australia Boosts Indigenous Tourism with New National Funding

The Australian Government has unveiled a $50 million tourism package focused on expanding and promoting Indigenous-led experiences across the country. The announcement, made today by the Minister for Tourism, supports a growing sector that offers travelers a deeper understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
Grants will be distributed to Indigenous-owned businesses offering guided walks, bush food tastings, storytelling experiences, and traditional art workshops. Destinations like the Red Centre, Kimberley, and Great Barrier Reef will be prioritized.
Tourism Australia will launch a new international campaign titled "Ancient Stories, Modern Journeys" across North America, Europe, and Asia to showcase authentic experiences rooted in First Nations traditions.
Officials hope the initiative will not only attract more visitors but also empower Indigenous communities through job creation, business growth, and cultural preservation. The program is expected to generate over 8,000 jobs by 2030.
Industry leaders applauded the funding, noting that demand for meaningful and ethical tourism is at an all-time high. Tour operators are also working with Indigenous groups to co-create new travel itineraries that highlight the connection between land, people, and spirituality.
The initiative marks a new chapter in Australia’s tourism narrative, placing Indigenous culture at the center of its future strategy.
