The Martinique Tourism Authority named Benedicte di Geronimo as the tourism commissioner of the island.

Di Geronimo, a former bank senior executive and graduate of the Sorbonne in Paris, is already working to reduce the impact of the pandemic on Martinique's tourism economy.

Di Geronimo also thanked travel advisors "for your love and support. The whole island is looking forward to welcoming your clients with open arms." The commissioner plans to pursue strategies to boost air and cruise schedules and increase arrival numbers.

Her appointment coincides with the reopening of shops, restaurants, gyms and cultural sites that had been in lockdown for several weeks due to an August spike in Covid cases. Access to beaches now is allowed as well.
