The Jamaica Tourist Board has unveiled a new eco-tourism certification program aimed at promoting sustainable travel practices across the island. This initiative will reward hotels, tour operators, and attractions that meet strict environmental and community engagement criteria.

Certified businesses will receive marketing support, tax incentives, and priority placement in official tourism promotions. The program seeks to align Jamaica with global green tourism trends while preserving its natural resources.

Local stakeholders have praised the move, saying it could enhance Jamaica’s appeal to environmentally conscious travelers from North America and Europe.

Training workshops will be provided to help small and medium-sized tourism enterprises adopt eco-friendly measures, such as energy-efficient systems, waste reduction, and community-based tourism projects.

The program is part of Jamaica’s broader Vision 2030 plan, which aims to balance economic growth with environmental stewardship.

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett noted that the program will also help the country stand out in a competitive Caribbean market increasingly focused on sustainability.
