Brazil’s Gol Linhas Aéreas is preparing to enter the long-haul market with new flights connecting Rio de Janeiro to New York, Paris, and Lisbon.

The expansion will begin later in 2026 as the airline introduces modern Airbus A330-900 aircraft capable of operating long-distance routes.

The airline plans to transform Rio de Janeiro’s Galeão International Airport into a major international hub, strengthening travel connections between South America, North America, and Europe.

Gol previously focused primarily on domestic and regional routes using narrow-body aircraft, making this shift toward wide-body operations a significant strategic change.

The long-haul initiative is expected to attract both leisure travelers and business passengers, particularly as demand for travel between the Americas and Europe continues to grow.

Tourism authorities in Brazil believe the new routes could boost inbound tourism and support the country’s broader tourism recovery and growth strategy.

If successful, Gol’s expansion may encourage other Latin American carriers to pursue similar long-haul network growth.
