Boeing has announced a new order with LATAM Airlines Group for 10 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, with an option for an additional five 787-9 aircraft. As the top 787 operator in Latin America, LATAM reaffirms its commitment to a modern, fuel-efficient fleet that will support both passenger and cargo growth across the region.

Currently operating 37 of the 787-8 and 787-9 models, LATAM expects to expand its 787 fleet to 52 planes by the end of the decade. The new aircraft will support high-demand routes and open up new long-haul destinations, including LATAM’s nonstop service to Sydney.

“The Boeing 787's efficiency allows us to grow sustainably and reduce our carbon emissions,” said Ramiro Alfonsín, LATAM Airlines Group CFO. “This purchase will provide us with at least two new Dreamliners annually from 2025 through 2030.”

With fuel savings of 25% over previous models, the 787-9 offers expanded range and capacity, enabling LATAM to connect major hubs in Santiago, São Paulo, and Lima with more destinations globally. Mike Wilson, Boeing’s VP of Commercial Sales for Latin America and the Caribbean, highlighted LATAM’s trust in the 787 for international expansion as air travel demand surges.

Boeing’s 2024 Commercial Market Outlook predicts air travel in Latin America will grow by 5% annually over the next 20 years, with the region’s fleet potentially reaching over 3,000 planes by 2043.
