WestJet Places Canada’s Largest-Ever Aircraft Order with Boeing

Boeing and WestJet have announced the Canadian airline’s largest-ever order for 67 aircraft, reinforcing its growth strategy for both domestic and international networks. The deal expands WestJet’s firm order book to 123 airplanes, making it the largest single-aisle order in Canada.
The order includes 60 Boeing 737-10 jets with options for 25 more, and seven 787-9 Dreamliners with options for four additional aircraft. With this acquisition, WestJet plans to double its Dreamliner fleet, significantly enhancing its international reach across Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
“These highly efficient and comfortable aircraft are critical to fleet renewal and will improve fuel consumption, while supporting affordable travel for Canadians,” said Alexis von Hoensbroech, WestJet CEO. The airline, which began operations in 1996 with three Boeing 737s, now operates nearly 150 737s and seven 787-9s, connecting Canadians to key global destinations.
Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, highlighted the long-standing partnership: “We are honored that WestJet has placed its trust in Boeing, building a modern fleet that will serve passengers efficiently and comfortably for decades to come.”
With this order, WestJet’s 737-10 fleet grows to 107 jets, ensuring operational commonality and the lowest cost per seat of any single-aisle airplane, while the 787 Dreamliner offers enhanced passenger comfort and fuel efficiency. The airline’s fleet remains among the youngest in North America, with an average age of about 10 years.
This strategic investment underscores WestJet’s commitment to expanding air connectivity, offering affordable travel options, and maintaining a modern, sustainable fleet for the future.
