Viking and Avalon Waterways Suspend All Egypt River Operations
The Nile River has fallen silent today as major cruise operators, including Viking and Avalon Waterways, officially cancelled their March itineraries through the end of the month.
The decision follows a "comprehensive risk assessment" as the regional conflict involving the U.S., Israel, and Iran continues to escalate.
Viking, which operates a dedicated fleet including the Viking Osiris, stated that the "unpredictable security landscape" necessitated the immediate pause to protect both guests and crew, despite record-breaking demand for the 2026 season.
While some lines like AmaWaterways are continuing their river segments for guests already in Egypt, they have proactively suspended all Jordan and Dubai land extensions.
This sudden withdrawal has triggered a wave of "emergency rebookings," with travelers being offered full refunds or the option to shift their credits to European river cruises for the summer.
The "interrupted season" on the Nile is a major blow to Egypt's tourism recovery, highlighting how quickly geopolitical instability can derail even the most successful travel markets.
