Brazil: Guest Country of Honor in China Global Tourism Economy Forum

Brazil’s tourism potential will be a highlight of the 8th edition of the Global Tourism Economy Forum (GTEF), which is underway in Macao, China, from October 13 to 15.

With the theme “Tourism and Leisure: For a better life”, the event will bring together the world’s leading leaders, as well as investors and industry experts. In this edition, Brazil assumes the seat of guest country of honor, which was occupied last year by the European Union.

“It is with great responsibility that we will take over this important place and show why we got there. We have a huge tourism capacity that is already moving the economy of the country and generating positive results for the sector. We will continue working to further expand these numbers, and China is a strategic partner for that,” said Tourism Minister Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, who is heading the Brazilian delegation during the event.

In addition to the opening of the 2019 Forum, Álvaro Antônio will hold meetings with businessmen in the sector in order to attract investments to Brazil, generating jobs and income for the population. Infrastructure, transportation, theme / natural parks and resorts are the priority areas to seek incentives from the Chinese market. The minister will also meet representatives of the World Tourism Organization (WTO), the Macao Government and the organizers of the GTEF.

According to the organizers of the Forum, Brazil’s potential goes far beyond the economy and natural beauty, through the tasty regional cuisine, sounds, cultures, among other striking features. The international agency also pointed out the country as a great place for doing business, highlighting the city of São Paulo (SP).

China is one of the most emitting tourists to the world. Today, of the more than 141 million Chinese who travel every year, about 60,000 choose Brazil as their destination, with business tourism and ecotourism as their main motivations.

Data from the International Tourism Demand Profile from the Ministry of Tourism show that the Chinese move about $65 per day. Destinations such as São Paulo (SP), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Foz do Iguaçu (PR) and Manaus (AM) are some of the most visited by them.
