Cancun Travel Mart 2025: The Mexican Caribbean Gears Up for the FIFA World Cup
At the Cancún Travel Mart 2025, the Mexican Caribbean unveiled its new tourism promotion brand, which will officially replace the name Quintana Roo in international campaigns, establishing a more cohesive and globally recognizable identity.
The presentation, attended by Mara Lezama, Governor of Quintana Roo, and Rodrigo de la Peña, President of the Hotel Association of Cancún, Puerto Morelos, and Isla Mujeres (AHCPMIM), among other key industry figures and international media representatives, marked the launch of an ambitious branding strategy that directly links the destination’s image to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, of which Mexico is one of the host countries.
The highlight of the event was the official approval by FIFA designating Cancún as a World Cup base camp, a decision that strengthens the Mexican Caribbean’s role as one of the most influential tourist destinations in the Americas. As part of this designation, it was confirmed that the Moon Palace and Meliá Mayakoba resorts will host two national teams, each consisting of around 200 members, including players, coaching staff, and official delegations.
During the presentation, officials announced that the new international communication campaign for the Mexican Caribbean will include an official video and a series of parallel promotional actions across social media, public spaces, stadiums, and Mexican plazas, aiming to connect with national pride and the passion for football. “We want the world to see that this is a destination for everyone, where hospitality, culture, and sport come together,” the organizers emphasized.
The economic projections are equally ambitious. According to official estimates, more than 5.2 billion pesos are expected to be generated from tourism flows, logistical operations, and media exposure linked to the presence of national teams and international fans during the event.
Beyond football, the Mexican Caribbean aims to leverage this platform to strengthen its position in key markets such as Europe, North America, and South America, showcasing its world-class hotel infrastructure, air connectivity, and sustainable experiences. The strategy seeks to position Cancún and the entire region not only as a sun-and-beach destination, but also as a hub of hospitality, identity, and global projection.
With the support of the federal government, the active participation of the private sector, and the warm spirit of its people, the Mexican Caribbean is preparing to welcome the world with open arms, consolidating its leadership as Mexico’s tourism heart on the road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
