Central America Arrives at WTM London 2024 to Captivate the European Market
Central America is set to showcase its rich tourism offerings at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London, which kicks off today, November 5, and runs through November 7, 2024.
The region, demonstrating a notable recovery in international tourism since the pandemic, recorded a total of 27 million visitors in 2023, solidifying its status as an emerging and attractive travel destination. Among these visitors, the United Kingdom market saw remarkable growth, with 326,944 British travelers venturing to Central America to explore its biodiversity, culture, and natural beauty.
The Central America Tourism Agency (CATA) is actively participating in the event, promoting the region’s destinations and strengthening strategic partnerships with the UK market. As part of its WTM agenda, CATA will present a special award to two UK-based tour operators whose initiatives and travel products have played a significant role in promoting Central America as an appealing multi-destination option. This effort has been pivotal in capturing the attention of British travelers, who increasingly seek authentic experiences in close contact with Central America's vibrant nature and culture.
In addition, CATA will recognize journalists and content creators who have helped position Central American destinations within the UK market, highlighting the unique experiences the region offers. These brand ambassadors have been instrumental in sharing the region’s natural wealth, from lush jungles and iconic Pacific and Caribbean beaches to the warmth of its people and the richness of its traditions.
Central America’s participation in WTM 2024 provides a key opportunity to strengthen ties with UK-based tour operators, travel agencies, and media, reinforcing its growth as a destination committed to responsible and sustainable tourism. With a diverse range of offerings—from ecotourism and adventure to cultural experiences and wellness—Central America continues to establish itself as a unique destination for both British and European travelers.
The Central American delegation is led by Secretary General Boris Iraheta and Anasha Campbell, Minister of Tourism of Nicaragua and Pro Tempore President of the Tourism Promotion Agency, who will engage with UK tourism professionals and media to showcase the region’s wide array of activities and experiences, along with its sustainability initiatives aimed at preserving Central America’s biodiversity and cultural heritage.
