During a symbolic ceremony at the 2025 Tianguis Turístico, Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) officially announced that Acapulco will host the 50th edition of Tianguis Turístico, scheduled to take place from April 27 to 30, 2026.

The announcement was led by Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, Secretary of Tourism, who handed over the symbolic “baton” to Evelyn Salgado Pineda, Governor of the State of Guerrero. Also present was Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, Governor of Baja California, host of the current edition in Playas de Rosarito.

Rodríguez Zamora emphasized the historical and emotional significance of bringing the event back to the destination where it was born five decades ago. “Becoming the host state for Tianguis Turístico México is a historic responsibility — not only to the national and international tourism sectors, but most importantly, to the people of Mexico,” she said. “Today, Acapulco stands as a symbol of resilience, recovery, and the strength of a country that never gives up.”

She highlighted that the event will be a turning point for Acapulco, a city undergoing a major transformation following the impact of Hurricane Otis. As part of the “Acapulco Transforms With You” initiative, the federal government has invested over 15 billion pesos from various public funds to rebuild tourism, urban, and social infrastructure.

Acapulco’s recovery is already evident. During the recent Easter holiday, the city posted record tourism figures:

  • An average hotel occupancy rate of 95.2%,

  • Over 191,000 guests,

  • And a revenue of over 4 billion pesos,
with increases of over 40% compared to 2024.

Tourism accounts for 62.6% of Guerrero’s tourism GDP and 17.6% of Acapulco’s municipal GDP. It is an economic engine, a source of jobs, and a matter of national pride. That’s why we are thrilled to bring Tianguis back to its birthplace — stronger than ever,” said Rodríguez Zamora.

Sebastián Ramírez Mendoza, Undersecretary of Tourism and coordinator of Acapulco’s economic, cultural, and social recovery, reaffirmed the commitment of the federal government and the incoming administration of President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to reposition Acapulco as a world-class tourism destination.

Among the new developments, Ramírez announced the upcoming launch of the "Maribús" aquatic public transport system and the modernized cruise terminal, both designed to enhance mobility and diversify the visitor experience.

The 2026 edition will also be a milestone event as Tianguis Turístico celebrates 50 years since its first edition in Acapulco in 1975. Now the leading tourism business platform in Latin America, the event draws thousands of national and international buyers, tour operators, airlines, hoteliers, and tourism boards from across Mexico.

Acapulco, we’ll see you April 27–30, 2026 — stronger than ever — to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Tianguis Turístico you gave birth to and that fills us all with pride!” concluded Rodríguez Zamora, closing the ceremony with a message of optimism and unity for the tourism industry.
