Cancun, one of Mexico’s most popular tourist destinations, has reported a record hotel occupancy rate for September 2025, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. The milestone underscores the city’s resilience and continued attractiveness to both domestic and international travelers.

Tourism authorities in Quintana Roo announced that average occupancy exceeded 85%, with some resorts reaching full capacity during holiday weekends. The increase is attributed to strong demand from the U.S. and Canadian markets, as well as growing arrivals from South America.

Industry analysts highlighted that Cancun’s success is fueled by its wide variety of accommodations, from luxury resorts to budget-friendly options, combined with direct air connectivity from major cities.

Local officials also noted that the region has benefited from investments in infrastructure and safety measures, which have helped maintain visitor confidence. The new Maya Train project, currently in operation, is expected to further boost arrivals by connecting Cancun with other cultural and natural attractions in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Hoteliers reported strong bookings for the upcoming winter season, suggesting that the momentum will continue into 2026. Tour operators are also expanding their offerings to include more eco-tourism and cultural excursions.

With record-breaking numbers and promising forecasts, Cancun reaffirms its role as a flagship destination in Mexico’s tourism industry and a benchmark for recovery in the wider Caribbean and Latin American markets.
