Southwest’s Tampa-Havana Service Starts Monday

U.S. carries Southwest Airlines will kick off scheduled flights between Tampa and Havana for the first time in over half a century.

Southwest is following on the footsteps of JetBlue, Silver Airways, Delta and American Airlines in the process of opening regular commercial flights between the U.S. and Cuba since both countries reestablished diplomatic ties in 2015.

All in all, ten airlines have been authorized by the U.S. Department of Transportation to operate scheduled flights from the United States to the island nation.

The inaugural flight the Tampa International Airport (TIA) and Havana will begin Monday December 12 at 6:30am as Southwest’s sold-out aircraft lands on the tarmac of the Jose Marti International Airport in the Cuban capital.

From that moment on, Southwest will be serving a daily flight to Havana at an airfare of $225 for the entire month of December.
