Travelport is implementing a course to ensure that tourism students in developing countries have the skills and qualifications they need to get jobs in the travel industry. Galileo Graduate is a five-day program to be delivered in colleges and universities as part of existing travel and tourism courses.

It provides students with hands-on experience in booking and issuing airline tickets. The course ends in a two-hour exam which requires a pass mark of 85 percent. Students who pass are awarded a certificate from Travelport signifying that they have a working knowledge of the Galileo system.

The first courses have been presented in partnership with the University of Technology in Mauritius and to date 40 students have completed the program. Based on this initial success, Travelport plans to roll out the courses in other countries and is currently in discussions with colleges in Kenya and Mozambique.
