Audley Travel, using data from the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), reveals the top ten global wine producers, with France topping the list.

France leads with 48 million hectolitres of wine in 2023, accounting for 20.2% of the world's production. Italy and Spain follow, contributing 16.1% and 13.6% respectively, making up half of global wine production. The US (9.2%) and Chile (4.6%) round out the top five.

France, known for its diverse and classic wines, boasts 87,000 wineries across regions like Bordeaux, Burgundy, and the Loire Valley. For a true French wine experience, consider vineyard tours, cellar visits, and tastings in these renowned areas.

Italy's second-place ranking is attributed to its vast array of grapes and regions, while Spain's large vineyard area and significant organic wine production place it third. The US focuses its wine production in California, with notable regions including Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Chile's top wine regions are Maipo Valley and Colchagua Valley.
