Twenty-four panels that cover from the 16th century to the 20th century shed light on the architectural and urban development of Santiago de Cuba City, showcased by means of its history cartography, as well as the most representative plans of the city throughout that time, with engravings and pictures.

The exhibit gives viewers the opportunity to study the evolution of the city over the years, visualize such streets as San Basilio, Aguilera, Padre Pico, Santa Lucia and interesting places that are still kept on the collective memory.

“Cartografia y Paisaje” speaks of the history of Santiago de Cuba: nature seemed to take everything from this city, but it stands there, at the same place where it was founded, challenging and resisting the impact of nature; and, at the same time, it’s a project of future that will allow new generations safeguard the heritage values, Dr. Maria Elena Orozco Melgar said during the opening.

The exhibition also includes the sale of books “Genesis de una Ciudad del Caribe. Santiago de Cuba en el Umbral de la Modernidad”, “Tumba Francesa. La Caridad de Oriente” and “Castillo del Morro San Pedro de la Roca”. It will be opened throughout the month.
