Costa Cruises said it has introduced an aluminum recycling initiative for its ships calling at the Port of Savona in Italy in 2007 and 2008.

The cruise line also said that it will make available the results of its first “sustainability report,” created on a voluntary basis that will outline the company’s results in the fields of social accountability and environmental compliance.

Under an agreement with the Italian National Consortium for the Recovery and Recycling of Aluminum (CIAL), Costa will launch segregated waste collection on its eleven ships sailing in Savona, Italy, over the next two years.

The vessels will be outfitted with separate disposal and recycling containers for aluminum packaging, including food and drink cans, aluminum foil, spray cans and aluminum trays, Costa said, which will be collected in segregated waste disposal bins on Costa’s ships and sent to CIAL for recycling.
